Vincent Herring

"Dudli's Dilemma" & "Koba's Delight"

When the Jazz Coalition commissioned me to write a song or two it was great timing. The pandemic put a hurting on nearly every musicians income and the commission was a blessing, thank you to The Jazz Coalition. The gesture is greatly appreciated.

Preaching to the Choir
The church's I attended as a youth were full of great communicators. They had a way of making you feel they were talking directly to you. Little did I know this environment would shape my musically playing before I even played music. When I perform on the saxophone I try to communicate very much like a preacher. Well I don't really try, it is second nature to me. There is a dedication to the words and in my case the music. I want everyone to feel the love and joy I feel when making music. Preaching to the Choir is a fun and spirited piece of music. In this setting the choir is the world.

Dudli's Dilemma
One of my good friends is a drummer named Joris Dudli. Joris lives in Vienna Austria and he has a really cute daughter and now she grew up to be a beautiful young lady. Now she is singing and trying to find her in the world and in the music business. Joris is very cautious and now worried about her career choice. The song captures the mood and feeling given off by Joris

2 pieces, "Dudli's Dilemma" and "Koba's Delight" with Vincent Herring, Cyrus Chestnut, Yasushi Nakamara, and Johnathan Blake 11/21/20 NYC
