“The Right To Live”

Banner-RalphPeterson.jpg

The piece is inspired by the tragedy and heartbreak of all the needless death of people of color at the hands of public servants who swore an oath to serve and protect. The needless murder of Americans like George Floyd, Brianna Taylor and so many others strikes me very much at home because my Father Ralph Peterson was both a Jazz Musician and then served over 50 years from Patrolman to Chief of Police and Mayor of the City of Pleasantville NJ. He knew the importance of police being a part of the communities they worked in and in far too many cases today Police officers do not live where they serve so there is no sense of investment or connection to the people. As a people we have A RIGHT TO BREATH.... A RIGHT TO LIVE .
